Who We Are
We are the mighty Eco Committee and our job is to help the planet by spreading awareness of environmental issues and doing our best to lead change.
What We Do
As an Eco-School, we start the year by electing our Eco-Committee; the committee is led by our Year 5 & 6 Eco Warriors with the support of our adult Eco-Coordinator. The committee then complete an Environmental Review of the school through different topics: Biodiversity, Marine, Energy, Litter, Water, Healthy Living, School Grounds, Global Citizenship, Transport and Waste. This helps us to identify our strengths, and areas for development and enables us to develop an action plan and decide on ways that we will monitor and evaluate the changes we make. Through this process, we learn about planning, teamwork and how to inform and involve others.
Over the past couple of years, we have lead several improvements to our school. We have introduced recycling bins for the food waste and also recycle our paper, cardboard and plastic bottles. We monitor the use of electricity around the school, checking to ensure lights and IT equipment are switched off when there is no one in the room. We are currently working towards reducing the use of single use plastic in school.
We are keen to share our work with both adults and children. This year we attended the East Sussex Climate Change Summit where we shared details of our work. We deliver assemblies in school to help other children learn about climate change and write articles for the school newsletter to tell adults what we have been doing.
