5th March 2024
On Tuesday 5th March 2024, as part of our book week celebrations, the children of Alfriston School were excited and honoured to meet world-renowned author Jacqueline Wilson. Having written over 100 books for young people, and been made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II, Jacqueline is a very busy person but she found time to come and share some of her knowledge and experiences with the school. The children sat, enraptured, for a full hour as she recounted stories of her time creating beloved characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather and continuing beloved story series such as 'The Faraway Tree' and the 'Children and It' books. She quizzed the children on her books and their knowledge of the local area and some of the best answers and creative ideas were rewarded with book prizes. The most exciting of these must have been for one of our Year 4 students who won a copy of Jacqueline Wilson's new book, 'The Girl Who Wasn't There', two days before it's official release! It was a truly special event that will be remembered by us all.
